Chapter 04 - The First Seraph
Subject One called himself Atlas.
He was built like a soldier carved from stone. Every step cracked the concrete.
Gabriel attacked first.
His shield struck Atlas’s chest.
Atlas did not move.
He caught Gabriel by the throat and threw him through the boxing ring.
Maya raised both hands.
Red force slammed into Atlas and drove him through the wall.
He stood from the rubble, smiling.
“There you are.”
He charged.
Maya saw every movement before it happened. She ducked beneath his fist, struck his ribs, and released the heat inside her.
Red light filled the alley.
Atlas crashed through a parked truck.
Then he rose again.
“You are stronger than I was at your age.”
“Why are you helping them?”
“I’m not.”
Sirens approached.
Helix vehicles.
Atlas threw her a black data key.
“Your mother is alive. Helix calls her the Vessel.”
Then he vanished across the rooftops.
Tactical teams flooded the alley.
Maya saw Elena trapped beneath a fallen beam and three soldiers aiming at her.
Maya stepped between them.
The first blue pulse struck her shoulder.
Her eyes ignited.
Every loose object in the alley rose—bricks, pipes, broken glass, steel signs.
The soldiers froze.
Maya sent the debris into their weapons, destroying each rifle without touching a body.
She lifted the beam off Elena with one hand.
At a hidden safe house, Gabriel unlocked Atlas’s data key.
A file showed Ana suspended inside a transparent chamber, surrounded by red energy.
The recording was two days old.
“She’s alive,” Maya whispered.
A map identified the location.
FORT HALCYON.
Beneath the abandoned facility was an engine named the Ascension Array.
Its purpose was to awaken dormant Seraph cells across the world.
Activation would occur in forty-eight hours.
Maya looked at Gabriel.
“We’re going in.”
“You’re untrained.”
“They have my mother.”
“And an army.”
