THE RED AWAKENING / Chapter 10 / 15

The Army in the Sky

Chapter 10 - The Army in the Sky

Ana sealed the city beneath red barriers.

Maya’s team entered the tower through maintenance tunnels using Sienna’s card.

Sienna came with them.

Inside they found her father, Dr. Conrad Vale, operating Helix equipment.

“You told me Maya was dangerous,” Sienna said.

“She is.”

“You said writing one word would scare her.”

“It awakened her exactly as predicted.”

“You knew she could kill me.”

“Your risk protected millions.”

Maya stepped forward.

“Her cruelty served your experiment.”

Conrad fired a hidden weapon.

Sienna moved first.

The pulse struck her.

She fell.

Maya caught her.

The old anger returned.

Red power rushed into Maya’s hands.

Her abilities had not vanished.

They had been sleeping.

Conrad rose into the air, choking.

Maya could end him.

Sienna touched her wrist.

“Don’t let him make you that person.”

Maya released him.

They reached the roof.

Ana waited above the tower in armor formed from red crystal.

“My brave girl,” she said.

“These people are not following you,” Maya answered. “You’re controlling their pain.”

“I freed them.”

“You replaced one prison with another.”

Ana descended.

“Humans will fear us, hunt us, and betray us.”

“Some will.”

“And you still choose them?”

Maya looked at Sienna, wounded but standing.

“I choose people who can still change.”

The battle began.

Atlas struck Ana with golden force.

Eve’s white flame returned.

Marcus anchored the collapsing roof.

Lena freed controlled Seraphs one at a time.

Maya flew toward her mother.

They collided above the city.

Red lightning split the clouds.

“I spent seventeen years dreaming of you,” Ana shouted. “Do not choose them over me.”

“I’m choosing you without the thing controlling you.”

Ana released a wave powerful enough to destroy the skyline.

Atlas flew between them.

His golden body cracked beneath the blast.

May you like

“Finish it,” he told Maya.

Then he fell.
