Dr. Halloway's own plea agreement, finalized around the same time, resulted in a five-year sentence for prescription fraud and conspiracy, along with the permanent revocation of his medical license.
Derek attended both sentencing hearings, Megan choosing, with her therapist's guidance, to submit a written victim impact statement rather than face her former mother-in-law directly in a courtroom, a decision she described as prioritizing her own healing over any performance of confrontation the moment might otherwise have demanded.
Her statement, read aloud by the prosecutor during Gloria's sentencing, described in careful, unflinching detail exactly what three months of unknowing sedation had cost her, her sense of her own mind, her confidence as a mother, her trust in the people closest to her.
