Dr. Curtis Halloway's own legal proceedings advanced alongside Gloria's, prosecutors pursuing charges for prescription fraud and conspiracy given the mounting evidence of his knowing complicity in the sustained harm to Megan.
Farrah Nasser, coordinating with the criminal prosecutor on the civil aspects of the case, uncovered financial records showing Halloway had accepted payments from at least two other patients' family members over the preceding five years, a pattern suggesting Gloria hadn't been his only client willing to pay for exactly this kind of dangerous, unethical cooperation.
"This isn't his first time enabling something like this," Farrah told Derek and Megan, presenting the expanded findings. "We've identified two other cases where he prescribed considerable quantities of medication to a family member, with documentation suggesting the medication was likely being administered to someone else entirely."
Megan felt a fresh wave of horror at the specific, expanding scope of harm a single corrupt physician had apparently enabled across multiple families, patients trusting a system that was supposed to protect them instead quietly weaponized against them by people they should have been able to rely on completely.
"How is this allowed to continue for so long," she asked. "Doesn't anyone oversee these kinds of prescriptions."
"Medical oversight systems are considerably better at catching outright drug diversion for resale than they are at catching exactly this kind of targeted, personal misuse," Farrah explained. "Halloway understood that gap well enough to exploit it for years without triggering the kind of red flags that typically draw regulatory attention."
Halloway's medical license was formally revoked pending the criminal case's resolution, and the state medical board opened its own parallel investigation into his broader practice history, a process that Farrah expected would take considerable time given the scope of records requiring review.
"I want every one of his patients notified," Megan said. "Everyone who might have been affected by whatever else he's done. I don't want another family going through what we just survived without at least being warned to look for the signs."
Farrah nodded, already drafting the formal request for patient notification. "That's a reasonable request, and I believe the medical board will ultimately require exactly that, given the scope of what's already been documented."
Derek, listening to this expanding investigation unfold, felt a specific, growing resolve building alongside his grief, understanding that whatever came next for his own family, there was real value in making sure the broader system that had enabled his mother's cruelty faced genuine, lasting consequences too.
