No Longer Yours

Chapter 15 - No Longer Yours
Naomi called the meeting at Blackthorn House.
Not the boardroom.
The foyer.
The same marble room where Adrian had stood beside Sloane and told Naomi to leave before he called security.
The stone table remained near the stairs.
Her motorcycle keys rested in the center.
This time, the house was full of different people.
Employees whose pensions had been raided.
Women from Project Widow files.
Retired executives pressured into silence.
Thomas in a wheelchair, Rosa beside him.
Helen March with her daughter.
Sloane and Evelyn Mercer.
Mags from the archive team.
Union representatives, factory supervisors, estate staff, and journalists invited on the condition they listen before they filmed.
Naomi stood in the black dress she had worn the night she returned.
Not because she wanted drama.
Because women were often told to replace the clothes they wore during humiliation, as if fabric carried shame.
She wanted the dress to carry victory instead.
Marcus opened the meeting.
Vale Meridian Group would be reorganized under an independent stewardship charter. No single family trust would hold majority voting control. Employee and pension representatives would receive board seats. An outside restitution council would oversee compensation. Project Widow survivors would receive legal funding, corrected records, and public acknowledgment.
The Cross trust would transfer twenty percent of its shares into a permanent employee foundation.
Blackthorn House would no longer serve as a private family estate.
A murmur moved through the room.
Rosa looked at Naomi.
“You are giving up the house?”
“No.” Naomi smiled softly. “I’m changing what ownership means.”
The main residence would become the Eleanor and Daniel Center for Financial Justice, providing legal assistance to women facing coercive control, fraudulent incapacity claims, inheritance theft, and corporate retaliation.
The west wing would remain Naomi’s private home.
The rest would have doors people could enter without permission from a Vale.
Thomas began to cry.
Rosa took his hand.
Helen March stood.
“Your grandmother would argue about the tax structure.”
Naomi laughed.
“She already did. Marcus found six pages of notes.”
The laughter that followed was small but real.
Then federal officers brought Vivian into the foyer for a court-approved property inventory. She wore a gray suit and ankle monitor, awaiting trial under strict conditions.
She had asked to collect personal jewelry.
Instead, she found the house filled with people she had spent decades keeping outside its doors.
Her face tightened.
“What is this?”
Naomi stepped toward the stone table.
“The ownership transfer.”
Vivian looked around.
“You cannot give away a legacy.”
“A legacy is what remains after the lies are removed.”
Vivian’s eyes filled with hatred.
“Your brother wanted to destroy us.”
“No. He wanted to stop you from destroying everyone else.”
“You think these people will love you for this?”
Naomi looked at the employees, widows, daughters, and older women standing in the house.
“I am not buying love.”
That was the difference Vivian would never understand.
Adrian appeared by video on a secured screen for the legal reading of his removal. He had agreed to cooperate as part of plea negotiations, but cooperation did not restore him.
Marcus read the resolution.
Adrian Vale was permanently removed from all executive authority. His disputed beneficiary claims were void. His access to Blackthorn was revoked. His remaining shares were frozen pending restitution judgments.
Adrian looked at Naomi through the screen.
The room became quiet.
She picked up the motorcycle key and placed it on the stone table again.
The same clear click.
Adrian flinched.
Naomi looked at him.
“As of this moment, you are no longer CEO, no longer a beneficiary, and no longer welcome in a house you never owned.”
The sentence was finally complete.
No hard cut.
No darkness.
This time, everyone stayed to hear what came next.
Vivian whispered, “And what are you now?”
Naomi turned toward the open doors.
“Free.”
Outside, workers were removing the brass plaque that read VALE PRIVATE ESTATE.
Beneath it, the original stone engraving appeared.
BLACKTHORN HOUSE — A CROSS FAMILY TRUST.
But behind the plaque was one more hidden inscription, carved by Eleanor years ago.
A HOUSE IS ONLY SAFE WHEN THE TRUTH CAN ENTER.
Naomi touched the words.
Then Marcus received a call from the prosecutor.
Vivian had requested a plea.

Her condition was that she be allowed to tell Naomi who else had died because of Project Widow.
Daniel and Charles were not the only names.
