Daniel arranged a formal statement, issued jointly through the Meridian Hotel Group's corporate communications team and Scott's own newly retained attorney, publicly clearing Scott Bennett's name and acknowledging the company's failure to properly investigate the original theft accusation.
"I want this handled with complete transparency," Daniel told Grace Whitcombe, reviewing the statement's language carefully. "I don't want this softened into vague corporate language that avoids taking real responsibility for what happened."
The statement, once released, generated considerable local media attention, the specific, redemptive story of a wrongly accused father finally reunited with his family and formally cleared of any wrongdoing proving irresistible to news outlets eager for exactly this kind of hopeful coverage.
Scott, uncomfortable with the sudden public attention after nearly a year spent trying to remain as invisible as possible, found himself gradually more at ease as the coverage consistently, accurately reflected the full truth of what had actually happened to him.
"I keep waiting for someone to tell me this isn't real," he told Renee, one evening in the modest apartment Daniel had helped them secure while Scott's formal reinstatement and back pay were being finalized. "Part of me still expects to wake up back in that shelter."
"It's real," Renee said, reaching for his hand. "I promise you, it's completely real."
Curtis Vale's criminal case moved forward over the following months, prosecutors pursuing charges for both the original theft and the fraudulent termination that had covered it, his confession providing more than sufficient evidence for a swift resolution.
He ultimately received a sentence of three years, along with a restitution order requiring him to personally compensate Scott for lost wages and damages, a financial reckoning that Daniel understood would never fully account for the eleven months of genuine suffering Scott and his family had endured, but represented, at minimum, formal accountability finally applied where it had always belonged.
Daniel personally offered Scott his old position back at the Ashford Regency, with a considerable promotion attached, an offer Scott accepted after careful consideration, understanding it as both a genuine opportunity and a meaningful, symbolic correction of the injustice he'd survived.

"I want you to know something," Daniel told him, during their first formal meeting following his reinstatement. "This isn't charity. I've reviewed your original employment record thoroughly. You were an excellent manager for six years before any of this happened. I'm not offering you this position out of guilt. I'm offering it because you've earned it, twice over, considering everything you've survived to get back here."
Scott nodded, tears rising, the specific, hard-won relief of finally being seen clearly again, not as a wrongly accused thief who had disappeared in shame, but as the capable, honest man he'd always actually been.
